Psalm 73: 8-11

They scoff, and speak with malice;
    with arrogance they threaten oppression.
Their mouths lay claim to heaven,
    and their tongues take possession of the earth.
10 Therefore their people turn to them
    and drink up waters in abundance.[c]
11 They say, “How would God know?
    Does the Most High know anything?”

Psalm 2

Why do the nations conspire[a]
    and the peoples plot in vain?
The kings of the earth rise up
    and the rulers band together
    against the Lord and against his anointed, saying,
“Let us break their chains
    and throw off their shackles.”

The One enthroned in heaven laughs;
    the Lord scoffs at them.
He rebukes them in his anger
    and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,
“I have installed my king
    on Zion, my holy mountain.”

Psalm 119: 81-88

81 My soul faints with longing for your salvation,
    but I have put my hope in your word.
82 My eyes fail, looking for your promise;
    I say, “When will you comfort me?”
83 Though I am like a wineskin in the smoke,
    I do not forget your decrees.
84 How long must your servant wait?
    When will you punish my persecutors?
85 The arrogant dig pits to trap me,
    contrary to your law.
86 All your commands are trustworthy;
    help me, for I am being persecuted without cause.
87 They almost wiped me from the earth,
    but I have not forsaken your precepts.
88 In your unfailing love preserve my life,
    that I may obey the statutes of your mouth.

1.  Come thou fount of every blessing

1 Come, thou Fount of every blessing,
tune my heart to sing thy grace;
streams of mercy, never ceasing,
call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount I'm fixed upon it
mount of God's redeeming love.

2 Here I raise my Ebenezer;
hither by thy help I've come;
and I trust thy hand to guide me,
safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
wandering from the fold of God;
he, to rescue me from danger,
interposed his precious blood.

3 Oh, to grace how great a debtor
daily I'm constrained to be!
Let thy goodness, like a fetter,
bind my wandering heart to thee:
prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
prone to leave the God I love;
here's my heart, O take and seal it;
seal it for thy courts above.

I exalt thee

For Thou Oh Lord Art High Above All The Earth
Thou Art Exalted Far Above All Gods
For Thou Oh Lord Art High Above All The Earth
Thou Art Exalted Far Above All Gods

I Exalt Thee, I Exalt Thee
I Exalt Thee, Oh Lord
I Exalt Thee, I Exalt Thee
I Exalt Thee, Oh Lord

Heaven Came Down

O what a wonderful, wonderful day – day I will never forget;
After I’d wandered in darkness away, Jesus my Saviour I met.
O what a tender, compassionate friend – He met the need of my heart;
Shadows dispelling, With joy I am telling, He made all the darkness depart.

Chorus:
Heaven came down and glory filled my soul,
When at the cross the Saviour made me whole;
My sins were washed away –
And my night was turned to day –
Heaven came down and glory filled my soul!

Born of the Spirit with life from above into God’s fam’ly divine,
Justified fully thru Calvary’s love, O what a standing is mine!
And the transaction so quickly was made when as a sinner I came,
Took of the offer of grace He did proffer – He saved me, O praise His dear name!

Chorus:

Now I’ve a hope that will surely endure after the passing of time;
I have a future in heaven for sure, there in those mansions sublime.
And it’s because of that wonderful day when at the cross I believed;
Riches eternal and blessings supernal from His precious hand I received.

July 11, 2021

"Until who knows" (see below) turned out to be "until July11, 2021."   For a year-and-a-half, we met via Internet.

We are now, Lord Willing" returning to the beach.  "How good it is to be in the house of the LORD!"

Songs for today:

Psalm 119

א Aleph

Blessed are those whose ways are blameless,
    who walk according to the law of the Lord.
Blessed are those who keep his statutes
    and seek him with all their heart—
they do no wrong
    but follow his ways.
You have laid down precepts
    that are to be fully obeyed.
Oh, that my ways were steadfast
    in obeying your decrees!
Then I would not be put to shame
    when I consider all your commands.
I will praise you with an upright heart
    as I learn your righteous laws.
I will obey your decrees;
    do not utterly forsake me

Praise the name of Jesus

Praise the name of Jesus

He’s my rock

He’s my deliverer

In him will I trust

Praise the name of Jesus

Psalm 108

My heart is steadfast O God.

My heart is steadfast O God.

I will sing and make music with all my soul.

Be exalted O my God above the heavens.

1 Majestic sweetness sits enthroned
upon the Savior's brow;
His head with radiant glories crowned,
His lips with grace o'erflow.

2 No mortal can with Him compare,
among the sons of men;
fairer is He than all the fair
who fill the heav'nly train.

3 He saw me plunged in deep distress,
and flew to my relief;
for me He bore the shameful cross,
and carried all my grief.

4 To Him I owe my life and breath,
and all the joys I have;
He makes me triumph over death,
and saves me from the grave.

Communion meditation by Boris Shaulov:

Mark 6:31 And He said to them, “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.”
As the Coronavirus continues to scourge the Earth, each and every individual is urged to take necessary precautions. The most prominent of these recommendations is social distancing. This may seem like a great inconvenience, but there is a great opportunity available to us during this time. I do not mean to make light of the suffering and loss! No, just the opposite! It is because of seriousness of this situation that we are directed to a sort of solitary confinement.
Many of us live our lives in a constant state of action and distraction. When there is nothing to act upon, we immediately default to some type of distraction. Richard Foster explained it like this, “Our fear of being alone drives us to noise and crowds. We keep up a constant stream of words, even if they are inane.”
This drastic change in the world is the perfect chance to experience the solitude of a silent heart and quiet mind. Jesus would often go out by himself to spend time with God.
·         In Mark 1:35 he’d rise early in the morning and, “While it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.”
·         In Luke 5:16 “But he would withdraw to desolate places and pray.”
·         Again, in the garden of Gethsemane (Matt 26:36)
·         Again still, after hearing the news of John the Baptist, and so on and on.
So, if we are called to be imitators of Christ, it is no debate whether or not we should do the same. I do not discount the value for fellowship and evangelism, both of which require a person to go out into the world and amongst people. Foster quotes Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s book “Life Together”, stating:
“Let him who cannot be alone beware of community….
Let him who is not in community beware of being alone….
Each by itself has profound pitfalls and perils. One who wants fellowship without solitude plunges into the void of words and feelings, and one who seeks solitude without fellowship perishes into the abyss of vanity, self-infatuation, and despair.”

I will close with a quote from the JFB commentary: It refers to the time after Jacob had taken Esau’s birthright and had left on his own, then as he lay his head down, he had the dream of a ladder from heaven appear to him. It states the following:
“His thoughts during the day must have been painful…. though he had obtained the forgiveness of his father, he had much reason to fear lest God might have forsaken him. Solitude affords time for reflection; and it was now that God began to bring Jacob under a course of religious instruction and training. To dispel his fears and allay the inward tumult of his mind, nothing was better fitted than the vision of the gigantic ladder, which reached from himself to heaven”

This is the type of revelation you God urges to provide you with. Not necessarily a dream, but an instruction to dispel any fears or tumult. Most of us do not live alone, but you have the choice to find time in the morning or late at night to seclude yourself from the world. Set time aside where your family will not disturb you, and leave your phone off; then, in a quiet and still solitude, listen, and you will feel the Holy Spirit speak to you. It is written: Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!

March 29, 2020
John 16:33 I have said these things to you, that hin me you may have peace. iIn the world you will have jtribulation. But ktake heart; lI have overcome the world.”
As sure as I am that fire burns, rain falls, grass grows and everything dies, that’s how sure I am that there is a loving creator whose mind is beyond anything any of us can begin to fathom.

In the silence of my mind and amidst the ever present sounds of nature I feel wholly aware of the inner peace made available to me.
How great is the grace, the mercy, and the power of God!

I know, that through the occasional wrath and rebuke of our Father, we are loved. So much so, that we are given the opportunity to find true rest through faith. That, by surrendering control, we are able to release the chains of fear and uncertainty holding us down!

1 Peter 3:11-12 quotes Psalm 34:13-15 as he explains what we ought to strive for in any time of our life – he says:
11 Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it. 12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers:
Our God is Awesome, and deserving of our praise, even, and especially, in the most uncertain of times. This passage reminds us that our daily life as followers of Christ and children of God has not changed. We are to eschew, or turn away from evil, and to always seek peace.
The thing I love most about this is that then he explains how to achieve this peace. He states:
“And his ears are open unto their prayers”
In the faceless terror of disease, and the gargantuan darkness surrounding inconceivable losses, we can find true peace in only ONE.
As sure as I am that love exists in the world, I can tell you that peace, rest, and relief are gifts of Grace – And we all have access to it -
In John 14:27 Jesus lovingly explains: ePeace I leave with you; fmy peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. gLet not your hearts be troubled, neither hlet them be afraid.

March 22, 2020

Welcome.  For over a year and a half, we have been meeting every Sunday on the beach of Rincon.  This week and who knows for how long, we are not meeting on the beach because of COVID-19.

So we are meeting by blog.  We'll start with a few songs.  The first one is a video of a a song from an Easter Sunrise Service at the church a number of us attended previously.  The second song is a video of a recording of a song I (Clif Armstrong)  wrote many years ago. The third song is a video of a man singing "The Power of Your Love."  It's an understated, but powerfully moving performance.

Following the songs is a brief message based on Psalm 27.

Next week, Lord willing, we will have a Communion meditation.

Reader comments are enabled.

May God bless you.

       Through love and faithfulness a king's throne is made secure.
Sometimes we become focused on titles and on how others address us.  Jesus did not tell people what to call him and answered to "Lord," "Rabbi," "Teacher," and even "Jesus."  The only title he did not accept "Good Teacher."  He treated people with Love and Faithfulness and they respected him, no matter what they called him.  Of course, not everyone responded in kind.  We can expect nothing different for ourselves.

Humility
      The everyday definition of humility involves the following:
     adjective, hum·bler, hum·blest.

verb (used with object), hum·bled, hum·bling.

In other words, "humble" comes across as a bit negative.

The Christian idea of humility is different.  It involves seeing ourselves as God sees us, that is, as we are (made in his image), valuable (Christ died for us) and of infinite worth (more than many sparrows).

For Jesus, humility meant seeing himself as he was not:  "Who being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant" (Philippians 2: 6-7).
Worship involves acknowledging who God is, who we are, and thanking Jesus for his sacrifice.

3. The concert was a benefit for Centro Vida Nueva (New Life Center). In 1988 a local Christian pastor wanted to help drug addicts in Pamplona. He realized that on the weekend they all got “saved” and on Monday they went back to their drugs. So with almost no funds or support system, he and his wife invited four heroin addicts to live with them. These four people came to a saving knowledge of Christ, gave up drugs, and became new creatures in Christ. The Lord used that to begin a ministry of sheltering and rehabilitating people. Today the ministry is flourishing beyond description. In an amazing complex of six large buildings in a beautiful pastoral setting, they house between 110-130 men, women and children, rescuing them from addictions, mental disorders, homelessness, and family problems. Deborah wanted to go home and clean house, the facilities were so spotless! It is a 3-5 year program with counselors, onsite employment, instruction in social skills and Biblical discipleship. In their 31-year history, 95% of the people have come to faith in Jesus Christ for salvation. In fact, the city of Pamplona sends their most hardened drug addicts to Vida Nueva. We had a tour of the facility and met the founder and his wife at the concert. We learned that they were inspired by the orphanage ministry of George Mueller in England. Brothers and Sisters, in my humble opinion, I believe I met Spain’s George Mueller. This multi-million dollar facility and ministry is operated with no debt and they live out the verse, “Because nothing is impossible for God.” It was an honor to witness this amazing work of God. Check them out at www.centrovidanueva.es  (Taken from a report of a mission trip to Spain by Concert Pianist Sam Rotman.)

April 20, 2019 Easter Sunday

1.  Three Days

     It was early on the first day when the stone was rolled aside.
     It was early on the first day when the soldiers ran away.
     it was early on the first day when two women came to see
     A tomb of rock with nothing inside but hope for you and me.

    It's early on another day, the Lord is still alive
    The Lord of Lords, the Prince of Peace, the King of Kings still reigns
     His name is high and lifted up, his train the temple fills
     Jesus is Lord, he's in the flesh, he's here until the end

     It's early on another day, I just heard a trumpet sound
     I can't tell where it's coming from, I hear it all around
     I see the heavens opening, I hear the angels sing
     Praise God, I've finally seen this day, praise God I'll never die.

For communion:

Good Friday 2018
by
Clifton D. Armstrong

Held by nails he’d made,
on boards he’d made,
put there by people he’d made.

He’d walked there on a road he’d made
in a city he’d made and had set apart for himself.

While he hung, a bird on its way to someplace
stopped to rest on the cross board.

“Sing me your best song,” he said.

The bird chirped and started in on the song it best knew and sang the most.

It was a song of hunger and thirst,
of danger and loneliness,
of being homeless with no place to rest,
of never knowing if you would have a next meal.

But it was also a song of feasting
and of nights in a meadow after a storm,
even if enemies were near.

-It was the bird’s best song and the only one it knew.

As it ended, the listening man spoke.
“I remember writing that song for you,”
he said.
“I knew your life would be difficult,
that it would be like mine
and that someday you would come to visit.
Thank you.  Go in peace.”

The bird continued on its way
And the man looked up to Heaven

And went his way.

December 9, 2018

1. Angels came to earth one night, they sang about a beautiful thing
    Some shepherds living in the fields heard all the angels sing
    They sang about the glory of the newborn King of Kings
    The shepherds found the baby and praised God about these things,

    Magi came from far away, they were following a star
    They brought their gifts to Jesus: gold, frankincense and myrrh.
    I wonder what it was about that star that made them come
    From the land where the sun comes up to the town of Bethlehem

    Mary saw the shepherds come and the wise men depart
    She treasured all these things inside and pondered in her heart;
    "This must be the Savior, this must be the One,
    This must be Messiah, this must be God's son."

2. LORD, I Lift Your Name on High

This week, my father sent me the following:  "I just returned from the --- state prison.  We had three services.  I did not get to preach this morning, but had several good conversations with inmates.  There is a group of about 8 or 9 men who sing together with no musical accompaniment.  They are tremendous and their harmony is fantastic.  I asked the leader between services how often they practice.  He said that they don’t get to practice, other than a few minutes before the first service each Sunday.  I asked how they do this great harmony.  “Those that can do it, do it." he said.  Those that can’t, just sing the melody.”  He said, "We had the opportunity to present a program of Gospel songs for the Warden and a lot of big wigs a couple of weeks ago and they were very impressed.  They wondered how we could be in prison, some for life, and still radiate so much joy.  “I told them, 'It’s only Jesus.' ”
